HumanisEM Speaker Series - Spring/Summer 2022

 

The spring/summer HumanisEM session, held virtually on June 9, featured Dr. John Edward Lewis on "How to Un-Bake a Cake: The Vital Role of Music in Health, Education, and Social Justice"

Dr. Lewis shared how he remixed an old recipe to remove structural barriers to health equity hard-baked into our society. Dr. Lewis is an emergency physician and co-founder of Emergency Medicine Remix, a layperson's health literacy start-up, which aims to educate through synergistic partnerships with educators, creatives, and entertainers to end health disparities.

HumanisEM Speaker Series - Fall 2021

​

The fall HumanisEM session, held virtually on December 1, featured Dr. Matthew Edwards, a psychiatrist and historian, speaking on Pittsburgh's Freedom House Ambulance Service: Historical Origins of Emergency Medical Services and Implications for Mental Health Crisis Response.

HumanisEM Creativity in Medicine Award 2019

​

The winners of the HumanisEM Creativity in Medicine Award, awarded to residents for works reflecting on their experiences in residency, medicine, and in serving the city of Baltimore, were announced in December 2019. This year's winning entries featured sketches, poetry, and a photoessay. The winning entries, by Drs. Lukas Ramcharran, Korie Zink, and Richa Manglorkar, can be found here.
